Ask a Student Designer:
Alan: A bike rack where bicyclists can hang and lock their bikes.
How does this structure fit into a parklet?
Alan: Basically, it creates a sort of wall between the street and bike lane and the parklet. It also frees up space on the ground.
Alan worked with B. Arch BAC student, Maria Bolivar on this design.
Zach: I care a lot about recycling so I'm envisioning a curved wall that is made out of recycled bottles but the bottles could hold plants. The bottle theme could also be part of the ground, with broken bottle pieces arranged in a mosaic recycle symbol.
Are you imagining that the plants in the bottles would be living?
Zach: Some of them would be in soil but others could just be places where people could leave each other flowers or grow their own plants from potato cuttings. This way the community would be engaged and the space would feel like it belonged to everyone.
Zach worked with M. Arch 3, Risa Ishihara and B. Arch, Jaime Bustos to develop his design
